Things to do in Adelaide

Adelaide is one of the friendliest and most relaxed state capitals in Australia. It’s a city with hills on one side, beaches on the other, and a lot in between. If your coming to Adelaide for the Deloitte Australian International Three Day Event in November why not come early or stay for a couple of additional days and see some of the sights.

While in Adelaide for the event we recommend you find time to visit the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, Adelaide Central Market, Adelaide Zoo to visit the giant panda, famous Adelaide Oval for a visit to the famous Bradman Collection and a cruise with Temptation Sailing to enjoy the dolphins which you are guaranteed to spot! Adelaide has approximately 100 restaurants within its square mile and eat streets are many including Chinatown in and around Gouger Street, Rundle Street East and Hutt Street precinct. The city’s hot spots for nightlife are the pubs, clubs and bars of the Rundle Street area in the east and Hindley Street, Light Square and Gouger Street in the west.

If you are interested in wine, there is the National Wine Centre located in the city, only 20 minutes from the city to the east is Penfold’s Magill Estate, home of the famous Grange arguably Australia’s most famous wine, and if time permits enjoy the iconic Magill Estate restaurant! Only 50 minutes from the city is the famous Barossa where you can taste family owned wines such as Rockford and Henschke, plus the larger more famous wines from Wolf Blass, Penfolds, Yalumba and Jacob’s Creek.

The Adelaide Hills is only 20 minutes away and a highlight is a visit to Hahndorf, the original German settlement, so the influence of food and produce here is evident. There are also some fabulous wineries with great cellar doors and well respected restaurants overlooking lush green hills. There is nothing better than sitting on the decking at ‘The Lane’ sipping on an Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc and enjoying a platter of hills produce. There are great restaurants in the towns of Stirling, Aldgate and Bridgewater just to name a few of quaint hills villages you must find time to visit.

Kangaroo Island is a short flight or a slightly longer ferry ride but a must see when visiting South Australia. There are secluded pristine beaches, nature in the wild, amazing coastal scenery and great food and wine. A highlight is a visit to Seal Bay and a walk on the boardwalk to meet the local Sea-lion population. Local food and wine producers are becoming a must see in their own right and well worth a visit.

The Flinders Ranges are stunningly beautiful and November is a great month to travel with temperatures comfortable for spending time walking in the spectacular Flinders Ranges National Park. Some special things to do are taking a balloon flight, a scenic flight over the Flinders which is the only way to see the vastness and the colours of the ranges, scenic flight to view the once in a lifetime flooded Lake Eyre which is the largest lake in Australia.
